The most famous origami eagle is Nguyen Hung Cuong´s Eagle diagrammed in “Liscense to fold”. This design inspired me to make my own version of an eagle. On 21st of December 2023 I started designing an eagle, I finished folding five days later making this model one of my quickest designs.
I consider the way the parts of the design fitted together my special christmas gift. It´s folded from a 50cm square and still the feathers on the head are extremely small. However the reason for that is no lack of efficiency. The eagle has a wingspan of 27cm / a ratio of 0.54 while the ratio for Nguyen Hung Cuong´s eagle is only 0.44. Compared to the body, the wings of my eagle are a little larger, so the bodies of the two origami models should have a similar ratio.
Let´s a look at the feathers. In order to represent the different kind of feathers of an eagle,
I´ve used three different ways to form and shape the feathers. Additionally the feathers come in four different sizes.
The crease pattern for my origami eagle uses boxpleating on a 64 x 64 grid with some 22.5° structures along the diagonal symmetry line.
