3 important questions regarding origami

What is origami?

Origami is the art of folding paper. Having its origins in Japan and China, the art has gained popularity all around the world. For a long time origami models have been few and relatively simple, like the traditional crane. Nowadays, it`s possible to design literally anything: Scaled dragons, Crabs and everything in between

What are “Crease Patterns”?

A crease pattern shows all the creases you need to fold in order to get to the so-called “base” of an origami model. That´s why there are no step by step instructions for many super complex models. The base features all the appendages (arms, legs, wings) of the model and may even include details (eyes, feathers). Having folded the base, you need to give the model its final form and shape it into a good position. In many cases reaching the base is the crucial part when folding a model. But there are also models that have an easy base leaving much work when shaping the model.
For designing and sharing models, crease patterns are the best option, because they contain much information in a small file, in just a picture.

What does folding an origami model look like?

Here I will show you, what the folding process of an easy crease pattern can look like:
At first you precrease the crease pattern.
Afterwards you collapse the model resulting in the base.
Then you work on the details.
After shaping, your model is finished and ready for presentation.
