This origami sheepshead was designed in 2024. The name is unsual and I don´t know why you would name a fish like that, but it is correct. Anyway it´s a beatiful animal. Realising the only fish I designed was my generic fish, I wanted to make another one. To make things a little more intersting, I decided to include colour changes. Therefore I settled for the sheepshead.
At the start after drawing a sketch, I had an idea how to make a tailfin after a colour change. Then I went on testing and after few failed tries, I found a way to connect the tailfin and the body while going on with the colour change. Then I chose the grid an settled for a 20 x 20 grid.
The rest of the designing process was not really special (some tries for the head, the fins were the last part).
The model is folded from a 24 cm square of “Shadow Thai“paper. The paper works really well for this model, because it gives the fish some volume. Of course the stunning colour were another factor when choosing this paper. However I am not sure if it would work for models with many layers. The finished fish is 12 cm long, so the ratio is 0.5.
The crease pattern of this origami crab is based on a 20 x 20 grid and is featuring Boxpleating.
