This origami crab was designed in 2024 and is an update of my old crab design.
Even though I didn´t change the grid, I was able to include small spikes on the shell and claws and give the claws a cleaner look. This was possible, because I used off-grid structures to make the design more efficient and filled the now empty spaces with details. That´s why the crease pattern now makes use of some pythagorean stretches.
The claws and the legs of this origami crab are colour changed, but I didn´t have a duo paper thin enough. I tried “Sandwich Paper”, but the model became thicker than 1.5 cm. When I tried again, I used a special kind of sketching paper I bought at the shop “Papierkiste” in Munich. This paper weighs only 22 gsm, but is still sturdy. Because the paper seems white, I painted it on one side before folding. However the colour change, due to the fact tha the paper is nearly translucent. I can recommend this paper for nearly all kind of complex models, the only downside is that there is no coloured version of it.
The crease pattern of this origami crab is based on a 44 grid and is featuring Boxpleating.
