Iguana V2

In spring 2025, I decided to revise my Iguana design from the previous year. I noticed the proportions were slightly off…

Revising the model started with the crease pattern of the previous version. First, i went to work on the proportions. Next, I saw there was some paper unused in the top left corner (I couldn´t even make details out of it). So, I decided to move the front leg up. That allowed me to also move the hind leg up, meaning I could actually reduce the amount of paper. Success in the efficiency department.

Afterwards, I decided to use another way than a smaller grid to get bigger spikes without reducing their amount. Some new level shifters were necessary. However now, it would have resembled more a stick figure than an Iguana. So, I went to work on the next level shifters. That resulted in the crease pattern, I folded.

Prevcresing was a strange experience. In version one, most of the spikes are from the same divisions. Due to the changed proportions and spikes, most of the spikes are made from different divisions now, which made a very strange precreasing. Most of the time, one can only perform a small number of next creases. The references were even harder, then for the first version, I needed two reference points.

Collapsing was harder than the first version, but really fun. In this part, all the different divisions made sense.

Shaping was quite a challenge. There is much to do after the base and I was really nervous not to mess it up now. So, I set the model aside and focused on university and other stuff for a while. Some months later, I took it out of the drawer again, feeling ready. I filled the inside with orange tissue paper scraps, leftovers from preparing tissue paper. They helped a great deal to add volume when using MC to bring it into position. In the end, I left them in the model, I didn´t risk taking them out. Aside from two spots at the belly, they are not visible now.

Thanks to Bodo Haag for the paper!

The crease pattern was hard, at some point I think I went to far, I think you can see why. However I´m glad I folded it and I think it was worth it.
