Iguana V1

I designed this iguana in 2024 after not finding an iguana with spikes from the head to the tip of its tail.

The main challenge for this design was integrating the the spikes. I chose a method, that´s often used for the spikes on the legs of insects, because it is efficient and can easily adaptable. To me, 22.5 degree structures seemed to be the most elegant way to implent the spikes. However the design has many typical elements of a tilted grid design, because nearly no crease lines align with the edges. As elegant as that may be, it made the precreasing process quite a hard work. I have uploaded the crease pattern as well as a reference point. The target point is located on the bright blue horizontal line.

The iguana is folded from a 30 cm square of Karape, the finished model is 17 cm long. I would never even dare to use a smaller paper size, otherwise, the spikes will only be foldable using magnifying glasses (look for the picture of the model on my hand). Even though the ratio is smaller than the ratio of many lizards, these lizards don´t feature spikes. I think it the result was more than worth it.
