Bat V1

After discovering many origami bats either have a nice belly or a nice back, I wanted to design a bat that has both in 2022. The back is still a little better, but I think the belly does look quite good.

To achieve a closed belly and back, I placed the head in the center. Because this made the design really inefficient, I moved it slightly, so that the nose now comes from the center. Designing a closed back for my bat was an easy task, the main problems were making the belly and the legs. My solution for the belly is to put the paper for the belly into a corner of the square. This way, you have a clean tranition between the lower jaw, the neck and the belly of the bat.
Origami doesn´t have many structures that can be used to make nice legs for a bat on the backside and the belly. That´s why I needed the longest to overcome this particular challenge. During the third refold of this model, I used excess paper coming from the transition units between belly and legs to finally shape the legs on both sides of the bat. The final version of my origami bat are the pictures with a green background.

The surprisingly simple crease pattern is using 22.5° structures with diagonal symmetry.
